General Assembly
The General Assembly is ALLEA's highest legislative body, where all 53 Member Academies meet every two years. The programme of the biennial meeting consists of two parts, a scientific conference and an ALLEA business session. The conference sessions are devoted to presentations of papers and activities usually linked to or expanding on ALLEA core activities. Since 2002, proceedings of the academic sessions were published as Biennial Yearbooks.
In the business session, ALLEA governance and policy matters are on the agenda; all Member Academies have a vote (not more than two per country).
In 2009, ALLEA convened an “Extraordinary Strategy meeting” at KNAW, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 16-17 November 2009, to discuss the strategic plan 2010-2015.
