Member Academies

ALLEA is the Federation of 53 National Academies of Sciences and Humanities in 40 European countries.
Member Academies are self-governing communities of scientists and scholars.
Academies eligible for membership are learned societies with a broad, multidisciplinary scope and of national importance. For a complete list of members and their portraits, see the members section.

From the Statutes (as revised at the 2000 General Assembly):
Academies of European countries whose activity is devoted to Sciences and Humanities - including Social Sciences - may be members of ALLEA provided they represent their national scientific communities, play an acknowledged nationwide role within their country and are recognised by an international institution like the International Science Foundation, International Academic Union, ICSU: the International Council for Science, and other similar international organizations.
